COTABATO CITY (May 23, 2024) – Governor Abdulraof “Gob Sam” A. Macacua reaffirmed his commitment to advancing peace and development for the Bangsamoro region during the “Local CAB Normalization Implementation Planning Workshop” held on May 21, this city.

Reflecting on the historical conflicts faced by the Moros and the significant government efforts under the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), Governor Macacua emphasized the importance of these initiatives in addressing past injustices and realizing the Moros’ long-standing quest for self-determination through the establishment of the Bangsamoro government.

“The journey towards peace has been marked by challenges and sacrifices. Yet, gatherings like this serve as a beacon of hope, reaffirming our unwavering dedication to the cause of peace and principles of reconciliation,” Governor Macacua stated.

Highlighting the CAB’s pivotal role in the peace process, the governor noted that it includes vital components such as security, socio-economic development, transitional justice, and confidence-building measures, all aimed at fostering restorative opportunities for the community.

“Normalization mechanisms encapsulate a comprehensive strategy that includes these crucial elements, ensuring a holistic approach to peacebuilding,” he added.

He urged the workshop participants to actively engage and collaborate to ensure the success of their initiatives, saying, “I urge you to actively participate, contribute your perspectives, insights, and expertise, and spark innovation through our collective exchange.”

“Through our unified efforts, we will sculpt a roadmap leading to tangible and transformative results,” Governor Macacua added.

The workshop, an initiative of the Provincial Government and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU), focused on the Localized Normalization Implementation (LNI) Program. This national strategy aims to enhance the execution of programs and interventions at a localized level, with the Provincial Government at the forefront of these efforts.
