MP Antao mulls legislation for Legal and Shari’ah Scholarship and Return Services
COTABATO CITY (May 21, 2024) — In a move aimed at enhancing access to justice for marginalized communities in the Bangsamoro Region, MP Mohammad Kelie U. Antao and his colleagues have introduced a bill to establish the Legal and Shari’ah Scholarship and Return Services.
The Bangsamoro Region, home to diverse communities, often faces challenges in accessing justice, particularly for those with limited financial resources and language barriers.
The proposed bill seeks to address these issues by supporting the education and training of future legal professionals committed to advancing justice in the Bangsamoro. Through a scholarship program and return services, the bill aims to cultivate a cadre of legal professionals sensitive to the needs of marginalized communities.
Furthermore, recognizing the importance of a robust Shariah justice system, the bill provides financial assistance to aspiring Shariah bar examinees. This investment aims to nurture a skilled Shariah legal workforce capable of upholding Shariah justice principles.
By fostering a diverse legal workforce, the bill aims to dismantle barriers and create an inclusive legal profession better equipped to tackle the unique legal challenges faced by the Bangsamoro community.
The proposed bill represents a significant step towards ensuring access to justice for all Bangsamoro residents and strengthening the region’s justice system. (Sahara A. Saban, BMN/BangsamoroToday)
