LDS Governor “Bombit” Adiong condemns bombing incident in MSU-Main Campus

COTABATO CITY (December 3, 2023) — “I condemn the violent bombing incident that transpired this morning at the Dimaporo Gymnasium at the Mindanao State University during a Sunday mass congregation,” Governor Mamintal “Bombit” Adiong, Jr. said on the recent violent attack on a religious gathering this Sunday morning.

Adiong said that in Lanao del Sur, they uphold basic human rights that includes the right to religion. “Terroristic attacks on educational insitutions must also be condemned because these are places that promote the culture of peace and mold our youth to be the future shapers of this country,” he stressed.

“To the families of those whose lives were lost in this senseless act of violence and terrorism, please accept our deepest condolences and sympathies. We will make sure justice will be served,” said Adiong.

The Governor of Lanao del Sur visited Amai Pakpak Medical Center to check on the wounded victims of the bombing this morning.

Adiong has urged the security sector to get to the bottom of the horrific incident as soon as possible, that caused “four (4) death and wounding more or less ten (10) other individuals” according to PRO BAR RTOC SMS REF NR 2023-1203-1083339 report.

“We will work closely with the PNP and the AFP to sort this out and arrest the perpetrators behind this barbaric attack,” he said.

On the other hand, Congressman Zia Alonto Adiong on a social media post said, “I have instructed my district office to gather information from the victims. We will extend medical assistance to the wounded.”


Meanwhile, The Office of the President of Mindanao State University (MSU) unequivocally condemn in the strongest possible terms the senseless and horrific act and extending heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families.

“MSU community is deeply saddened and appalled by the act of violence that occurred during a religious gathering at the university gymnasium this morning of December 3,” the statement said.

“Our immediate priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of all constituents, particularly our Christian community. We are aware of the heightened sensitivities and concerns that arise from such a tragic event, and we want to assure everyone that we are taking every measure possible to protect our students, faculty, and staff,” it added.

“We stand in solidarity with our Christian community and all those affected by this tragedy. We will not be deterred by this act of violence, and we will continue to work towards building a more peaceful and just MSU community,” it further relayed.

The MSU-Main Campus announced that university administration suspended the classes and all academic activities until further notice and has deployed additional security personnel to safeguard the campus.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) Marawi CPS and LDSPPO said that on or about seven (7) o’clock in the morning on Sunday, December 3, 2023, an explosion incident transpired at Dimaporo Gymnasium, Mindanao State University, Brgy. Dimalna, Marawi City that resulted to the death of four (4) persons and wounding more or less ten (10) other individuals.

Immediately, upon hearing the report, Marawi CPS and LDSPPO led by PCol Robert S Daculan, PD immediately responded and upon arrival they cordoned the area.

The wounded victims were brought by MSU security personnel to Amai Pakpak Medical Center, Marawi City while the Policemen is doing thorough investigation on the crime scene. (Tu Alid Alfonso, BMN/BangsamoroToday)
