COTABATO CITY (March 4, 2023) — Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) Minister Dr Mohammad S. Yacob has congratulated the BARMM fisherfolks for being the highest fish producer in the country.

“I would like to extend my gratitude to our grateful fisherfolk, and we are more than compensated by this achievement of remaining the rank 1 in the country,” Yacob said.

Based on Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), BARMM is still the top fish producer in the country according to the Fisheries Status Report released on Feb. 16, 2023.

The report revealed that the BARMM produced 1.319 million MT in the last two years, which is equal to 30.41% of the entire volume of fisheries production for Fiscal Year 2022.

This was followed as the top-producing region in the entire nation by the Zamboanga Peninsula with a difference of 59.89%, the MIMAROPA region with 71%, and other regions with 72% and 74%, respectively.

“This manifested that the Ministry from the regional office down to the provincial and municipal level is committedly performing its mandate to fulfill every responsibility that rests on their respective shoulders so that our farmers, fisherfolk, and ARBOs can feel the services of this government,” said Yacob.

Yacob also committed to continue supporting regional fisheries output through a variety of assistance that include the development of technical staff in collaboration with the government and fisheries research institutions.

The Local Government Units of the provinces of Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao, and Lanao del Sur, as well as the development partners and stakeholders that helped the fisherfolk through technology transfer and training received recognition from the Ministry.

“We are delighted with your unwavering support to boost the economic growth in the Bangsamoro region,” Minister Yacob said.

Yacob is very much thankful for what has been achieved by the Bangsamoro on abundant resources of the region. ### (Usop M. Manggamanan/BMN-USM BSIR Intern/BangsamoroToday, Photo courtesy of MAFAR Facebook)
