
Drip Irrigation System Launched in Maguindanao del Norte to Promote Climate-Resilient Farming

COTABATO CITY (August 5, 2025) — In a move to boost climate-resilient farming and sustainable agriculture, the Makinugon Farmers Producer Cooperative officially launched a drip irrigation system in Barangay Labungan, Maguindanao del Norte on July 30.
Funded by the Special Development Fund (SDF) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR), the project aims to enhance water efficiency, increase crop productivity, and reduce the environmental impact of farming.
“This drip irrigation system marks a significant step toward improving your farming practices,” said SDF Project Director Gil M. Cambronero, EnP, MPA. “Bay ensuring more efficient and targeted water use and that’s why Barangay Labungan is our target beneficiary of this project,” he added.
Cambronero also noted that farmers can look forward to improved yields, reduced labor, and more sustainable livelihoods as a result of this innovation.
The project features a 3.4m x 3.4m elevated water tank (9.725m high), a 1.8m x 1.8m powerhouse (3.204m high), and provides irrigation for a 1-hectare area (200m x 50m), maximizing water distribution efficiency.
Rafael Campong, Chairman of the Makinugon Farmers Producer Cooperative, expressed his gratitude to the BARMM government and MAFAR-SDF for their continued support.
“This drip irrigation system is a huge help for our daily farming activities,” Campong said. “Our work will now be easier, and we won’t struggle as much with planting. We promise to take good care of this system and use it responsibly to improve our farming,”
