Bangsamoro Parliament Committees Endorse Revised District Boundaries Under Bill No. 351

COTABATO CITY (August 2, 2025) — Two key committees in the Bangsamoro Parliament—the Committees on Amendments, Revision, and Codification of Laws (CARCL) and Local Government (CLG)—have jointly endorsed an amended version of Parliament Bill No. 351, which proposes changes to some district boundaries using updated demographic data.
The LTAIS–Public Information, Publication, and Media Relations Division, said on Facebook post that the total number of districts remains at 32. These are distributed as follows: Lanao del Sur (9), Maguindanao del Norte (5), Maguindanao del Sur (5), Basilan (4), Tawi-Tawi (4), Cotabato City (3), and the Special Geographic Area or SGA (2).
The revisions affect boundaries in seven districts in Lanao del Sur, three in Maguindanao del Norte, two in Maguindanao del Sur, and all three in Cotabato City. No boundary changes were made in Basilan, Tawi-Tawi, and the SGA.
These adjustments according to CARCL and CLG are based on the Philippine Statistics Authority’s latest data, which records BARMM’s population at 4.5 million as of 2024, excluding the province of Sulu.
The amended bill also contains a transitory provision in case Sulu rejoins BARMM, allowing Congress to allocate new parliamentary seats according to its population and applicable laws.
Parliament Bill No. 351, previously sent back for review, now moves forward to the plenary for full deliberation this August. (Tu Alid Alfonso, BMN/BangsamoroToday)
