COTABATO CITY (July 18, 2025) — Al-Haj Murad Ebrahim, the President of the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP), recently met with Atty. George Erwin Garcia, the Chairman of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), to discuss the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), scheduled for October 13, 2025.

During the meeting, Chairman Garcia informed Ebrahim that the COMELEC is fully prepared for the region’s first-ever parliamentary elections. He emphasized that it is time for the Bangsamoro region to have elected officials, noting that COMELEC is only awaiting the final legislation regarding the reallocation of seven seats for the province of Sulu. If the law does not pass through his office, they will proceed based on the current allocation of 25 district seats as outlined in the BARMM electoral code.

Ebrahim assured Chairman Garcia that the UBJP is also prepared to participate in these historic elections. He reiterated the strong commitment from both the leadership of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the UBJP to proceed with the long-awaited elections, ensuring that the officials elected will have a strong mandate to govern.

Accompanying Chairman Garcia were Commissioner Ernesto Ferdinand Maceda Jr., Executive Director Teopisto Elnas Jr., and Spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco from the COMELEC. Ebrahim was joined by UBJP Party Vice President Mohagher Iqbal and other party officials. (Tu Alid Alfonso, BMN/BangsamoroToday)
