HWPL Philippines to Host 2nd National Peace Convention, Highlights Peace Legislation, Education, and Religious and Cultural Harmony
COTABATO CITY (April 18, 2024) — International peace organization Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), is set to convene the 2nd National PeaceConvention at the Plenary Hall, Philippine International Convention Center on April 20, 2024.
Themed “A Symposium of Peace Legislation, PeaceEducation, and Religious and Cultural Harmony,” the eventaims to gather around 4,500 policymakers, educators, media, and religious leaders to showcase progress made across threecore initiatives since the 1st National Peace Convention heldin January last year.
Featured as the keynote speaker is Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim, Al-haj of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), addressing “Output of Education and Rule of Law in Building Peace and Achievingthe Cessation of War”.
BARMM’s recent declaration of a “Peace Day” and support for HWPL’s Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War(DPCW) highlight significant strides towards peacelegislation. Various regions and municipalities nationwide thathave passed resolutions of support for the DPCW will also beawarded at the event.
The DPCW written by international law experts consists of 10 articles and 38 clauses for the cessation and prevention of warand sustainable peace. Based on the support of countries, itwill be submitted to the UN General Assembly resolution for adoption.
HWPL’s peace education initiative is being implementednationwide as Schools Division Offices (SDO) from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao spearhead contextualization efforts to integrate HWPL Peace Education into the curriculum.
SDO Laguna, SDO Southern Leyte, and SDO Cotabato City will receive recognition for their efforts, followed by a ceremonial turnover of the textbooks they produced.
A special message from Vice President and Department of Education Secretary Sara Duterte will be featured, alongside a keynote address on Peace Education by Dr. Ronald L. Adamat, Commissioner of the Commission on HigherEducation (CHED).
The third core initiative, interreligious harmony, will be underscored through HWPL’s Religious Peace Academy(RPA), a pioneering academic program fostering unity amongdiverse religious communities through scriptural studyaccessible to all.
The event will culminate with a historic Joint Agreement of Solidarity signed by religious leaders, affirming a sharedcommitment to peace and interfaith dialogue.
The event aims to consolidate nationwide support for peaceadvocacy, supported by HWPL’s extensive global reach. It will be livestreamed worldwide with translations available in multiple languages.
HWPL is headquartered in Seoul, South Korea with 170 branches globally, including the Philippines. HWPL’s mission is rooted in practical action for peace. One of its landmarkinitiatives was the civilian-led Mindanao Peace Agreement, mediated by HWPL Chairman Lee on January 24, 2014, signed by representatives of Catholicism and Islam.
