BARMM lawmakers seek inquiry on mass termination of Cotabato City Government’s contract of service employees
COTABATO CITY (October 17, 2024) — Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) lawmakers filed a resolution Thursday, October 17 urging the Bangsamoro Parliament’s Committee on Local Government (CLG) to conduct an inquiry in aid of legislation on the mass termination of contract of service employees of the Cotabato City Government.
BARMM parliament members Atty. Suharto M. Ambolodto, Baintan Ampatuan, Susana Anayatin, and Eddie Alih filed BTA Resolution No. 646 following the announcement of Cotabato City Mayor Mohammad Ali C. Matabalao that about 3,000 contract of service employees of the city government will be terminated effective October 17, 2024 given the Sangguniang Panglungsod’s (SP) failure to provide for additional budget to cover the salaries of the contractual employees.
City Vice-Mayor Johari C. Abu claimed earlier that the SP has already provided for the salaries of the contract of service employees.
Ambolodto said the measure intends to enlighten the public about the untimely mass termination of 3,000 contract of service employees at the very commencement of the fourth quarter of the fiscal year placing the lives of around 3,000 families in dire uncertainty.
“There is an imperative to appreciate and understand the cause of such mass termination of city contractual employees and develop measures to manage human resources and financial situations placing untenured government employees in this predicament,” Ambolodto emphasized.
