GENERAL SANTOS CITY (September 17, 2024) — In preparation for the upcoming Musabaqah Ammah (citywide) 2024, set to take place in November, various Madaris (Islamic schools) in General Santos City have been actively conducting school-based Musabaqah competitions. These preliminary events are designed to select the best contestants from each of the city’s 65 Madaris, which are organized into 12 clusters.

Musabaqah encompasses a variety of competitions, including literary contests, sports events, and parlor games. This annual event is highly anticipated by Madrasah learners across the city, who look forward to showcasing their skills and talents.

The City Mayor’s Office – Integrated Cultural Communities Affairs Division (CMO-ICCAD), which serves the Muslim and Indigenous Peoples communities, will host the citywide Musabaqah. Under the leadership of Mayor Lorelie Geronimo Pacquiao, the local government has demonstrated strong support for the Muslim community through a range of initiatives, including the Madaris for Peace, Shari’a Atas Bitiara, Halal Industry Development, Muslim cemetery development, and peace advocacy projects.

As part of the Madaris Project, the City Mayor’s Office-Integrated Cultural Communities Affairs Division provides monthly allowances to Asatidz (Madrasah teachers), annual training for teaching enhancement, and prizes for the Musabaqah Ammah. These efforts underscore the local government’s commitment to supporting educational and cultural development within the Muslim community.

The Musabaqah Ammah serves not only as a platform for students to display their abilities but also as a celebration of the rich cultural and educational traditions of the Madaris in General Santos City. (Gandhi C. Kinjiyo, BMN/BangsamoroToday)
