MPW Strengthens BARMM Infrastructure with New Heavy Equipment Distribution

COTABATO CITY (June 3, 2024) — The Ministry of Public Works (MPW) has significantly boosted the infrastructure capabilities of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) by distributing 48 units of heavy equipment to its nine District Engineering Officers (DEOs) on Thursday, May 30. The turnover ceremony, held at the MPW Area Equipment Services in Simuay, symbolizes a strategic investment in the region’s infrastructure and disaster resilience capabilities.

Representatives from each DEO received the equipment, including District Engineers from Basilan, Maguindanao, Lanao, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Cotabato City. This initiative is expected to have a transformative impact on the respective offices, enhancing their capacity to execute critical infrastructure projects and respond effectively to disasters.

Deputy Minister Abdul Abdulmaomit M. Tomawis emphasized the importance of this allocation, noting that it would substantially improve the region’s disaster response and infrastructure resilience.

Shamsuddin A. Hussein, Acting Chief of the Equipment Management Division, detailed the array of the types of equipment being distributed, which includes Motor Graders, Road Rollers, Excavators, Wheel Loaders, Backhoe Loaders, and Transmit Mixers. This diverse range of machinery will enable the DEOs to undertake a variety of construction and maintenance projects, further supporting BARMM’s development goals. The heavy equipment will facilitate not only routine maintenance but also the swift execution of new infrastructure projects.

Engr. Danilo A. Ong, officer-in-charge of MPW, highlighted the significance of this event as a testament to the ministry’s commitment to regional progress. “This investment is a testament to the dedication to maintaining and improving public works infrastructure which is essential for the economic growth and development of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao,” Ong said.

His remarks underscored the ministry’s strategic approach to enhancing the region’s infrastructure framework.

Minister Architect Eduard Uy Guerra, the initiator of the program, expressed his dedication to expediting infrastructure projects that cater to the needs of the Bangsamoro people. Guerra’s proactive efforts in securing the equipment highlight his dedication to continuous improvement and future advancements. ” I really fight for the purchase of this equipment,” Guerra remarked, hoping to have more support for BARMM’s infrastructure development.
