Sheikh Muslim Guiamaden Appointed as New Bangsamoro Wali

COTABATO CITY (May 14, 2024) – Sheikh Muslim Guiamaden has been unanimously appointed as the new Bangsamoro Wali during a special session of the Bangsamoro Transition Parliament (BTA) held yesterday, May 13, 2024. The Parliament approved a resolution confirming the consensus on Guiamaden’s selection.

Guiamaden is one of the nominated in the said position in the meeting of the Council of Leaders held on May 9, 2024. However, the decision was simplified when one candidate named Dr. Muhammad Nadzer Ebil withdrew by submitting a waiver letter. Dr. Ebil, begged off and expressed his support for Guiamaden’s appointment.

Guiamaden, who hails from Buluan in Maguindanao del Sur and graduated from Al-Munawwara College of Da’wah’s Jamiah Islamiyah, will now assume his new duties as the ceremonial head of the Bangsamoro government.

In his role as Wali, Guiamaden will be responsible for inaugurating Parliament sessions, administering oaths of office, and attending public events. Additionally, he holds significant powers, such as the ability to dissolve the Parliament upon the Chief Minister’s advice following a vote of no confidence and to call for new elections.

The Bangsamoro Parliament has its third regular session today, May 14, 2024. During this session, Bangsamoro Parliament Speaker Atty. Pangalian Balindong will address the Parliament, and BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim will present reports and updates on the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.
