CBCS launches project with a goal that “No Bangsamoro Child is Left Behind”
COTABATO CITY (November 15, 2023) – The Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society (CBCS) launched a project supporting the education in the Bangsamoro region with a goal that “No Bangsamoro Child is Left Behind” held at EM Manor Hotel, this city on November 14.
The project, funded by the Government of Japan, is to be implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanano (BARMM) government.
The organizers said it basically aims to ensure that every Bangsamoro child will be provided with the necessary support, opportunities and care in order to reduce the drop out and enhance learning outcomes in 100 primary schools in the provinces of Lanao Del Sur and Maguindanao.
The Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF) allocated a total of 2.75 million peso over three years targeting 9,300 elementary school learners.
In the survey in thirteen regions in the whole country, data reveals that among the reasons why learners are not attending school is the inability of parents to support the educational needs of their children.
Guiamel M. Alim, head of CBCS, underscored the importance of the data on the status of children’s education in the BARMM.
He said the project will give an opportunity to the region to reduce the number of children who will drop out from the school.
Present in the launching was Hon. Asuka Ishizaka, First Secretary, Embassy of Japan in the Philippines.
The MBHTE Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal was represented by Atty. Sarah Bagis of MBHTE together with the Directorate General of Basic Education, Director General Abdullah P. Salik, Jr.
Other prominent personalities who attended the event were Dr. Christian Aedo, Education Practice Manager for East Asia and Pacific Region, World Bank and Ms. Karthika Radhakrisnan Nair, Senior Education Specialist of the World Bank, and Ms. Dandan Chen, and Operation Manager of the World Bank.
