COTABATO CITY (October 6, 2025) — In a dedicated effort to enhance local corn production, the Provincial Government of Maguindanao del Sur, through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) and in partnership with Local Government Units (LGUs) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR), successfully conducted a training session focused on corn production. This event took place on September 26, 2025, and included the distribution of various agricultural inputs and machinery.
The initiative aimed to improve farmers’ knowledge and skills in modern corn farming techniques. The training covered essential topics such as seed selection, land preparation, integrated pest management, and post-harvest handling—all critical for increasing yield and enhancing crop quality.
As part of the government’s ongoing support, certified hybrid corn seeds were distributed to participating farmers, and corn harvesters were formally handed over to selected farmer cooperatives. A total of 60 farmers directly benefited from this program, which provided immediate production assistance and strengthened collaboration between OPAg, LGUs, and farmer groups.
At the conclusion of the event, both farmers and government officials committed to maximizing the use of the support provided, working together towards a more productive and sustainable agricultural sector in the province.
This project is part of the Festival of Service: GIVE HEART initiative—the Provincial Government’s socio-economic development agenda of Governor Datu Ali “Datu sa Talayan” Midtimbang aimed at promoting inclusive, meaningful, and heartfelt service for all constituents of Maguindanao del Sur.
