COTABATO CITY (August 29, 2025) — A petition has been filed before the Supreme Court challenging the constitutionality of the Bangsamoro Autonomy Act No. 77, also known as the Redistricting Bill (BTA Bill No. 351).

The petition was submitted by Deputy Speaker of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA), MP Atty. Lanang Ali Jr., along with Dr. Mahdie Amella of the League of Bangsamoro Organizations (LBO) and Dats Magon of the Federation of Bangsamoro Coordinating Councils of the Philippines (FBCCP). They argue that the law violates national laws and should be struck down by the high court.

Atty. Ali announced the move through a post on social media, emphasizing the group’s position that the law is unconstitutional.

At the same time, various groups held a protest in front of the Supreme Court, demanding the removal of Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU).

Atty. Ali also renewed his call for the continuation of the BARMM Parliamentary Elections, scheduled for October 13, 2025, stressing that the elections are essential for allowing the Bangsamoro people to exercise their democratic rights. (BMN/BangsamoroToday)
