
MENRE Observes World Environment Day 2025

COTABATO CITY (June 11, 2025) — In honor of World Environment Day 2025, the Provincial Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy Office (PENREO) of Maguindanao del Norte organized a tree-planting event and riverbank clean-up on June 5 at the Dimapatoy Watershed Forest Reserve in Barangay Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat.
With the global theme “Ending Plastic Pollution,” the event emphasized the importance of restoring and protecting the environment amidst rising ecological threats. As part of the initiative, 350 seedlings of bamboo and Dao were planted along the banks of the Dimapatoy River.
The activity was led by CENRE Officer Forester Faisal U. Akmad, under the guidance of PENRE Officer Forester Lauban S. Abdul. Participants included several organizations such as the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Fraternal Order of Eagles, Beta Sigma Phi, and St. Simon and St. Jude Episcopal Church.
MENRE said that this event was part of the Philippine Environment Month celebration, which serves as a global reminder of our collective responsibility to care for and sustain natural ecosystems. (Tu Alid Alfonso, BMN/BangsamoroToday)
