UNYPAD National Capital Region Launches Donation Drive for Fire Victims

MANILA, Philippines (April 28, 2025) — In response to the devastating fire that struck Pier 15 in the Port Area of Manila on April 24, 2025, the United Youth for Peace and Development (UNYPAD) NCR Chapter has initiated a donation drive to assist affected families.
In solidarity, the NCR Chapter, along with its affiliated chapters in Taguig, Maharlika, Napindan, and New Lower Bicutan, has mobilized a Relief Operation to support the victims, many of whom are Bangsamoro and marginalized residents of the area.
The fire displaced approximately 1,800 families and engulfed a significant portion of the densely populated residential zone near the Manila South Harbor. According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the blaze spread rapidly due to the proximity of structures and limited access for fire trucks. Investigations into the fire’s cause are ongoing.
In a public statement, UNYPAD NCR issued a “Call for Donation Drive,” urging the public to contribute in-kind items such as clothing, food, hygiene kits, and other essentials. Monetary donations are also welcome to support relief efforts.
“On behalf of our organization, we call upon our fellow citizens to extend any form of assistance, whether in-kind or financial. Your generosity can make a significant difference for our brothers and sisters who have lost their homes,” the group stated.
Donations will directly benefit fire survivors currently residing in temporary evacuation centers and makeshift shelters. Volunteers from the participating UNYPAD chapters are preparing care packages and coordinating with local authorities for distribution.
Community leaders, residents, and partner organizations have praised UNYPAD’s swift action and encouraged other civic and religious groups to join in the spirit of Bayanihan.
Anyone interested in donating is encouraged to reach out via UNYPAD NCR’s official Facebook page or to contact their Executive Officers directly. (Gandhi C. Kinjiyo, BMN/Bangsamoro Today)
