Chief Minister Ebrahim, UNICEF Officials Strengthen Protection of Child Rights in BARMM

COTABATO CITY (October 22, 2024) — Chief Minister Ahod “Al Haj Murad” Ebrahim of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) welcomed a courtesy visit from Dr. Richen Chopel, Vice Chair and Rapporteur of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, and Member Thuwayba Al Barwani on Tuesday, October 22.

The report said that the discussions primarily focused on the situation of children in the Bangsamoro region, including updates on the implementation of the Committee on the Rights of the Child’s programs and initiatives undertaken by the Bangsamoro government to protect the rights and welfare of children.

The meeting was attended by several key officials, including Social Services and Development Minister Atty. Raissa Jajurie, Deputy Representative for Programs Behzad Noubary, UNICEF Regional Office East Asia and Pacific Child Protection Specialist Lucio Valerio Sarandrea, UNICEF Mindanao Field Office Social Policy Officer Sittie Rajabia Monato, and Mindanao Field Office Child Protection Specialist Rohannie Baraguir.

This engagement reflects the strong commitment of the Bangsamoro government and its partners to prioritize the rights and well-being of children in the region.
