MENRE, 1st Marine Brigade Collaborate for Advanced Law Enforcement Training in Maguindanao

COTABATO CITY (June 11, 2024) — In celebration of Philippine Environment Month 2024, the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy’s (MENRE) Forest Management Services (FMS) partnered with the 1st Marine Brigade to conduct an advanced training session focused on inter-agency law enforcement operations. The event, held on June 4, 2024, at Camp Iranun in Sitio Bombaran, Brgy Togaig, Barira, Maguindanao del Norte, aimed to enhance coordination and effectiveness in protecting the region’s natural resources.

Spearheaded by Brigadier General Eric A. Macaambac, this training forms a crucial component of the brigade’s mission-essential training for the year. It aims to strengthen the synergy between various agencies to tackle issues like illegal logging that pose both environmental and national security risks.

Foresters Sahabudin O. Singh, Judy B. Angkad, and Samsudin Robin R. Manakan, along with Mr. Abdul Satar K. Mentang, led the initiative from MENRE FMS. They underscored the importance of enhancing cooperation and efficiency in joint law enforcement operations.

Participants included officers and personnel from the 1st Marine Brigade and representatives from other law enforcement and regulatory bodies. MENRE FMS, in collaboration with the Provincial Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy Office (PENREO) of Maguindanao, delivered lectures on essential regulations under Republic Act No. 9175 (Philippine Forestry Code), pertinent executive orders, and administrative procedures.

MENRE technical experts enriched the training, sharing practical experiences and strategies in forest conservation and law enforcement. The activity equipped the participants with the skills necessary to effectively combat illegal logging and other environmental threats. The participants gained a comprehensive understanding of forest protection laws and enforcement techniques.
