Beyond his remarkable intelligence, Brother Yul Olaya has selflessly devoted himself to the Bangsamoro community through unwavering voluntary service. With unyielding courage, he has ventured into some of the most perilous areas, risking his life to rescue individuals caught in the deadly crossfire of conflict during an all-out war declared by the government against MILF.

His acts of bravery are a testament to his profound commitment to the well-being of those in need, often placing himself in harm’s way to bring others to safety.

His dedication extends far beyond these heroic rescues. He has been a relentless advocate for the Bangsamoro peace process. As a head of the Bantay Ceasefire, a civilian-led ceasefire monitor, he played a pivotal role in monitoring the implementation of the ceasefire agreement signed by and between the government and the MILF to ensure that both parties remain accountable to their commitments, fostering an environment of trust and stability.

Moreover, his contributions to the peace process are multifaceted. He actively participated in peace-building initiatives, facilitating dialogues between diverse community groups to bridge divides and promote mutual understanding.

Brother Yul has also been supporting educational programs of the BARMM to help ensure that education is framed in response to the educational needs and aspirations of the Bangsamoro.  He currently leads the MBHTE Basic Education Team, tasked with contextualizing the Matatag Curriculum to ensure it is culturally inclusive and responsive to the educational needs of the Bangsamoro community.

His determined pursuit of peace is driven by his vision of having a progressive and peaceful Bangsamoro inspired by service-oriented principles and guided by Bangsamoro Moral Philosophy.

His life’s work serves as a beacon of hope, courage, and dedication, illuminating the path toward a brighter future for Bangsamoro. (With the official permission from the writer Dr. Rahib L. Kudto to post this at BangsamoroToday)
