BARMM Agencies Extend Relief Assistance to Fire Victims of Davao City
COTABATO CITY (May 27, 2024) — In the wake of a devastating fire that struck the Muslim Village in Times Beach, Ecoland, Bucana, Davao City, last month, a coordinated relief effort has been mobilized to assist the 84 affected families. The Office of the Chief Minister’s Office for Other Bangsamoro Communities (OCM-OOBC), under the leadership of Executive Director Prof. Noron S. Andan, spearheaded a convergence program to provide immediate and essential support to those impacted by the tragedy.
This convergence program saw the collaboration of several key ministries: the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government’s Rapid Emergency Action Disaster and Incidence (MILG-READi), the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), the Ministry of Health (MOH), and the OCM-Bangsamoro Information Office (BIO). Working in tandem with the Davao City Mayor’s Office through the Interim Moro Affairs Office, these bodies came together to deliver much-needed aid to the affected communities.
The assistance included food packs, rice, hygiene kits, pails, water jugs, and medicines to ensure the immediate needs of the families were met. Additionally, the Ministry of Health organized a medical mission to provide essential healthcare services, ensuring that those affected received the medical attention required.
The convergence program not only aimed at addressing the immediate material needs of the fire victims but also sought to uplift their spirits and foster a sense of community and resilience.
“In times of crisis, [we must come together] to support our fellow Bangsamoro wherever they may be,” stated Prof. Andan. “This effort is a testament to our commitment to stand by our people in their time of need,” he added.
The Office of the Chief Minister, through the OOBC, continues to demonstrate its dedication to providing comprehensive support to Bangsamoro communities outside the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region. (Hasna U. Bacol, BMN/Bangsamoro Today)
