BARMM Ministry of Social Services and Development distributes relief aid in SGA’s drought-affected families
COTABATO CITY (April 21, 2024) – The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) said that through the Disaster Response and Management Division (DRMD) and SGA Provincial Office has distributed relief aid to 620 families affected by drought in Barangay Matilac, Pahamuddin, SGA, on April 17, 2024.
It added that each household received family food packs (FFP) containing 25 kilograms of rice, assorted canned goods, and instant coffee, to sustain their daily needs.
Jeahan R. Manampan, OIC Municipal Social Welfare Officer of Pahamuddin, said that the affected families have been experiencing insufficient water supply and lack of crops for farming, resulting in scarcity of food.
There will be a distribution of initial 6,000 welfare goods response to the other barangays will be distributed in the coming weeks, the MSSD disclosed.
The MSSD-SGA also said that they are closely monitoring the families in Special Geographic Area composed of 8 municipalities who recently voted yes for its establishment in the concluded plebiscites last April 13 for the additional social interventions they need after the immediate relief was provided.
The said activity is under the Emergency Relief Assistance (ERA) program of the Ministry that aims to provide immediate relief assistance and life-saving interventions to individuals and communities affected by natural or human-induced disasters and calamities. (Tu Alid Alfonso, BMN/BangsamoroToday)
